GRegory CRewdson
Gregory Crewdson is an American photographer who was born on September 26th 1962 in Brooklyn. He attended SUNY purchase and later received his master in fine arts from Yale University. His photography features elaborately staged scenes which portray a surrealistic style. Crewdson's photographs usually take place in small-town America, but are dramatic and cinematic. I chose this photographer because he is able to bend reality and break the rules impressively. Crewdson uses expensive equipment to achieve his visual affects and leaves me wondering how he was able to take certain pictures. One example of this would be the picture where beams of light are erupting from the floor or the picture where a body is floating in a water-filled family room. His photography almost has a painting like essence which only adds to the surrealism he is practicing. Today he lives and works in New Haven, CT, and New York, NY.
